Toronto's choreographer, Christine Tavares, is notably recognized for creating first class dance entertainment.

Whether it be a small fundraising event to a large-scale gala, theatre to film, product launches to sporting events, Christine has worked with actors, singers, skaters, gymnasts and dancers and is no stranger to providing businesses the entertainment that they deserve!

Bio

CHOREOGRAPHER

Christine Tavares is an award winning dancer, teacher and choreographer. As a choreographer and guest teacher to many studios and conventions across the province, Christine has been the recipient of numerous choreography, adjudicator and teacher choice awards. Her acclaimed choreography credits have been featured in numerous fashion shows, musicals and corporate events including: Summer Works, Moto Amore, Mayor's Gala, Motionball, IFBB Toronto Pro-Show, Canadian Cancer Society, Congress of Black Women, Alzheimer's Society, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, Grease (Bluma Appel Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Toronto), Women in Dance (Toronto Centre for the Arts). In addition, Christine was also the head choreographer for the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Dance Team (Air Canada Center) and the head coach for the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) varsity dance team. Presently, Christine is working with new and upcoming Canadian Pop Artist, Lexi Tellings, who's music videos can seen in Pizza Pizza stores across southern Ontario and songs can be purchased on iTunes.

DANCER

As a dancer, Christine has had the opportunity to perform across Canada, United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Her performance roles were seen on television, music videos, cruise ships, theme parks, dinner theatres, casinos and numerous corporate events. Some of Christine's memorable appearances include CFL Grey cup Half Time Show ft. Lenny Kravitz (TSN), Fashion Cares: MAC Cosmetics ft. Amanda Marshall, David Usher, Angie Stone (A&E/Bravo, World Winter Games Opening Ceremonies ft. Susan Aglukark (TSN), Paramount Parks (Breakfast Television, CITY-TV), featured acrobat in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Music of the Night" (Norwegian Cruise Lines). Epcot Walt Disney World, Viva Las Vegas, Sangre Caliente, and three seasons as dance captain with Paramount Canada's Wonderland in the main stage production. Industrial performance include: Bell Mobility, Bell Canada, Sears, Weekenders Canada and the Carlu.

TEACHER

Christine is a fully certified teacher under Dance Masters of America (D.M.A.), Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T.), and British Association of Teachers of Dancing (M.B.A.T.D). in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics, Stage and Modern. As an educator, Christine is notably recognized for developing strong dance curriculums at the secondary level within the Durham Separate District School Board, alongside the studio milieu. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Christine's students have been the recipients of many honourable awards in Canada. Winning numerous top marks in solo, duet and group categories, her students have also gone on dancing professionally in music videos, commercials, movies, theme parks, theatre, television and the Canadian Salsa Team. Presently, Christine is the Artistic Director of Protege Dance Company.

ADJUDICATOR

Christine also travels to New York City and Los Angeles where she studies the world-renowned choreographers at Steps, Broadway Dance Center and the EDGE Performing Arts Center, while attending many master classes across the country. She has had the privilege to train under the greats such as Ann Reinking, Ben Vereen, Patricia Birch, Paula Morgan, Sergio Trujillo and the late Gregory Hines. Presently, Christine is studying the Cecchetti Ballet syllabus under the training of Heather Davis. Christine's continuous involvement in teacher educational programs, including University of South Florida (Broadway Theatre Project) and University of Buffalo (S.U.N.Y.) ensures that all her students are taught the latest style and techniques in dance.

As a guest teacher to many studios and conventions across the province, Christine has also taught at Metro Movement Dance Studio, OIP Dance Centre, and at George Brown College. In addition, Christine is associated with the Professional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA) and has adjudicated for numerous competitions across Canada and the United States including, Terpsichore Dance Celebration, Dancefest, Rhythm Dance, Dance Beat, Dance Extravaganza, Canadian Edge, CDTA and CNE Rising Star.
